UK Government selects X-energy and Cavendish Nuclear for First Advanced Modular Reactor Award from Future Nuclear Enabling Fund /news/uk-government-selects-x-energy-and-cavendish-nuclear-for-first-advanced-modular-reactor-award-from-future-nuclear-enabling-fund/ Thu, 04 Apr 2024 09:30:12 +0000 /?p=104096 X-Energy UK Holdings, Ltd (X-energy), a wholly-owned subsidiary of X-Energy Reactor Company, LLC, and Cavendish Nuclear, a wholly-owned subsidiary of 水果派AV解说 International Group, today welcomed a funding award from the UK Government鈥檚 Future Nuclear Enabling Fund (FNEF) to further the development of their plans for Advanced Modular Reactors (AMRs) in the UK.

The Government鈥檚 award of 拢3.34 million will be matched by X-energy for a total programme of 拢6.68 million. The companies will use the funds to develop UK-specific deployment plans including an assessment of domestic manufacturing and supply chain opportunities, constructability, modularisation studies, and fuel management.

X-energy and Cavendish Nuclear also announced a partnership with Kier Group (Kier), a leading UK provider of construction and infrastructure services, to support constructability and supply chain analyses. Kier joins steel producer and engineer Sheffield Forgemasters and the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (NAMRC) to support X-energy and Cavendish Nuclear in completing the scope outlined in their FNEF proposal. The companies鈥 goal is for 80% of the value of the Xe-100 projects to flow to UK firms. Last year X-energy and Cavendish Nuclear signed a memorandum of understanding with Howden, the Glasgow-based gas circulation component manufacturer. They will also work with Nuclear Waste Services to review the approach to spent fuel management.

鈥淲e are backing innovation in nuclear 鈥 from building large-scale plants better to encouraging new advanced technologies 鈥 to achieve our ambition for a quarter of our electricity to come from nuclear power by 2050,鈥 Minister for Nuclear & Renewables Andrew Bowie said. 鈥淭his funding supports the next step in the development of advanced modular reactors and shows our commitment to keeping the UK at the forefront of nuclear technology.鈥

鈥淲e are delighted to receive this FNEF award from the Government. Gender Pay Gap Report 2023 /news/gender-pay-gap-report-2023/ Thu, 28 Mar 2024 08:31:49 +0000 /?p=103961 Today we publish our 2023 Gender Pay Gap Report and are pleased that our median pay gap has decreased from 9.6% to 6.7%, which continues a positive trend since we began reporting in 2017 with a reduction in the pay gap year in year.

This means that we continue to track well below the UK average gender pay gap (currently at 14.3%). Whilst this is positive, we recognise there is still more to do, and we remain focused on closing the gap as quickly as possible.

The Gender Pay Gap Report is crucial for 水果派AV解说 and reflects our continued commitment to creating and maintaining a working environment that is inclusive, diverse and supportive, which provides opportunities for all our colleagues. But as a defence company, we operate in a sector that continues to be male dominated and our challenge remains primarily an issue of representation. For us, having more women across the Group, and particularly in senior leadership roles, remains key to our long-term strategy.

In continuing to tackle the drivers of our gender pay gap using an evidence-based approach and monitoring progress to try to drive greater inclusivity, our long-term strategy to enable equal representation is based on three key themes:

  • Delivering a global response to inclusion
  • Growing new talent pipeline for the long term and attracting the best female talent from the current pool
  • Enabling employees to fulfil their potential within 水果派AV解说

水果派AV解说 wins Social Value category at MOD Sanctuary Awards /news/babcock-wins-social-value-category-at-mod-sanctuary-awards/ Tue, 19 Mar 2024 15:37:54 +0000 /?p=103638

水果派AV解说 has been named winner of the Social Value category at this year鈥檚 Ministry of Defence (MOD) Sanctuary Awards.

The award recognises our Production Support Operative (PSO) programme that鈥檚 supporting the delivery of the next generation of warships for the Royal Navy while helping people with a route to employment who may otherwise have found it difficult.

The MOD Sanctuary Awards is an annual celebration of outstanding sustainability and conservation efforts across the Ministry of Defence. The Social Value Award recognises projects with a focus on the social aspects of sustainability, including community engagement and education.

Developed in partnership with Trade Unions and local community partners, the PSO programme meets resourcing and skills requirements for the build of five Type 31 frigates at our Rosyth facility. It is focused on attracting people from a range of backgrounds and experience, including those not currently in education, employment or training, with the role centred around supporting and learning from time-served tradespeople.

Social value is at the heart of the programme. It鈥檚 helping to tackle economic inequality and improve social mobility by targeting recruitment from areas of higher deprivation. It is also reducing barriers to employment and creating equal opportunities with the removal of educational restrictions and provision of neurodiverse support, as well as improving gender balance by encouraging more women to take on industrial roles.

A key part of the programme鈥檚 success has been strong community partnerships and engagement. Fife Council has created a bespoke Pre-Employment Programme, which includes local training solutions by Kingdom Works, Exp-Learn and Opportunity Fife, and is the first of its kind in Scotland. Fife College provides between three and five weeks of capability development for every cohort of new PSO recruits, including general health and safety training and specific skills for the role.

Education and skills development are also a fundamental part of the programme. Following initial training, PSOs can further develop through on the job learning and potentially gain qualifications to become skilled tradespeople in the future.

Paul Armstrong, CEO of 水果派AV解说鈥檚 Marine Sector, said: 鈥溗葾V解说 is fully committed to making a positive difference to the communities that we serve, providing high-quality jobs that support local economies. We are extremely honoured to have won the Social Value Award at the prestigious MOD Sanctuary Awards, amongst some really tough competition.

鈥淪ince the launch of the programme in April 2022, we have employed more than 150 PSOs and will create a further 350 PSO roles over the next four years as part of 1,000 new jobs at our state-of-the-art Rosyth site.鈥

The PSO programme continues to grow, and similar programmes are being replicated in other parts of our UK business, demonstrating a relentless commitment to creating and upskilling the workforce.

We鈥檙e continuing to work towards equal gender representation, which starts with encouraging and enabling girls to consider STEM careers and goes right through to our goal of 30% of our senior leadership being women by 2025.

At 水果派AV解说 we recognise that 鈥業nclusion is a choice, and we choose inclusion鈥. We believe in the value of engaging different perspectives and working with people from different backgrounds, cultures and approaches to enhance our working environment and drive our business performance.

Being an inclusive employer makes us a better business. It enables everyone who works for us to fully contribute, means we can attract more diverse talent and broaden our talent pool, and helps us to be competitive in the marketplace. By choosing inclusion, we are creating the foundations to support our people and enable our commercial success.

To mark International Women鈥檚 Day, we鈥檙e sharing perspectives from our people about the importance of gender balance at 水果派AV解说 and our wider industry, as well as some top tips for those starting their careers.

Jessica, Head of Trade Controls, Security and Facilities, Australia:

鈥淔or those embarking on their careers at 水果派AV解说, my advice is to advocate for yourself and others. Look for chances to go above and beyond and become an advocate for your own accomplishments as well as those of your female colleagues. It’s important to showcase your achievements and those of other women in your field. Often, women tend to downplay their successes, but it’s crucial to promote yourself and others in a manner that’s partially humble but assertive.鈥

Nez, Integration Manager, New Zealand:

鈥淕ender balance at 水果派AV解说 is integral to fostering an inclusive and innovative work environment. Embracing diversity not only brings a variety of perspectives and ideas but also enhances creativity and problem-solving. It is crucial for the company’s success and sustainability. In the broader industry context, promoting gender balance contributes to breaking stereotypes, creating equal opportunities, and ultimately driving progress. By ensuring a gender-balanced workforce, we empower individuals to thrive, thereby enriching the industry. 水果派AV解说’s commitment to gender balance reflects its dedication to creating a workplace where everyone can reach their full potential.鈥

Holly, Communications Officer, Canada:

鈥淔or those embarking on their career journey, I would advise embracing challenges, seeking out mentors, and recognising the unique perspective they bring to the table. Remember, you are the future, and your voice matters immensely.鈥

Audrey, Technical Crew Member, France:

鈥淣othing differentiates a man from a woman in our professions, women are relatively poorly represented, but they have nothing to envy of their colleagues in the field. The day we achieve equality, we will be able to see without bias that men and women are equally qualified and competent for the same task, but with different sensitivities, based on the diversity of our personal experiences.鈥

Sarah, Head of Supply Chain, Australia:

鈥淭rue equality is being able to have a seat at the table no matter who you are, for 水果派AV解说 that goes even further in that we want to hear from each individual who has something valuable to contribute. In a time where defence spend is increasing across the globe, the wider industry is looking for people who level up how we work and how we deliver support to our customers. The only way that can be achieved successfully is by having a balanced input from all genders involved, to which 水果派AV解说 is sincerely committed.鈥

水果派AV解说 delivers St. Albans three months ahead of schedule /news/babcock-delivers-st-albans-three-months-ahead-of-schedule/ Thu, 07 Mar 2024 11:48:58 +0000 /?p=103284

水果派AV解说 has delivered Type 23 frigate HMS St. Albans back to the Royal Navy for sea trials three months ahead of the planned schedule, following an extensive and comprehensive refit.

Once her current sea trials are completed, HMS St. Albans, with her 178-strong crew, will return to sea as the most advanced, equipped, and capable Type 23 frigate in the Royal Navy鈥檚 fleet, boasting next-generation weapons systems and radar.

During her time in dock, skilled 水果派AV解说 engineers and other tradespeople spent around 1.2 million working hours carrying out a significant number of updates and upgrades to keep the platform at the leading edge of warfighting capability, including a substantial power generation and machinery upgrade, the removal, overhaul and replacement of both propulsion motors, and finally stripping and repainting her entire hull.

Crew facilities have also been improved and modernised to support the personnel living on board.

The teams that readied HMS St. Albans proudly gathered at the dockside to see her off and were joined by Royal Navy colleagues and representatives from across 水果派AV解说鈥檚 Devonport operation.

Gary Simpson, Managing Director of 水果派AV解说鈥檚 Marine Support business, said:

鈥淲orking on behalf of DE&S, preparing HMS St. Albans for sea again is central to ensuring our customer鈥檚 critical services are readily available, affordable, and long-lasting.

鈥淥ur skilled teams of engineers, fabricators, technicians, and other experts, with the support of DE&S, the Royal Navy and specialists in our supply chain, worked tirelessly to ensure the complex and extensive refit of HMS St. Albans was a resounding success. Watching her leave for sea trials was a proud moment for everyone involved.鈥

Commanding Officer of HMS St. Albans, Commander Helen Coxon, said:

鈥淕oing back to sea is a huge milestone and the result of a real team effort where Ship鈥檚 Company, DE&S, 水果派AV解说 and other specialist contractors, have come together to help us transition from engineering project back to being a warship.

鈥淲hether it was the first day at sea 鈥 as was the case for many of our less experienced sailors 鈥 or returning back to where we feel at home for the more experienced, sailing from Devonport was a big day and we鈥檇 like to thank all those involved in making it happen.鈥
