Refund Policy
This refund policy explains how tuition charges, refunds, and financial aid are adjusted
if a student withdraws from courses or from the college during the semester. Tuition charges are set after the registrar's add/drop period, and students remain responsible for those charges even if courses are dropped after
that date, unless they fully withdraw from the college.
Credit Balance Refunds
A credit balance occurs when payments or financial aid exceed the charges on the student account, meaning money is owed back to the student.
Credit balances are automatically refunded if required under Return of Federal Title IV Funds when federal aid exceeds allowable billing charges. Credit balances are also automatically refunded when a student has graduated or withdrawn from the college. All other credit balances are not refunded automatically and require a written request sent to billing@goucher.edu. Refunds can only be processed after the registrar's add/drop dates have passed for the semester in which the credit balance occurred. Learn more about requesting a refund.
You can also request that a student's credit balance be transferred to OneCard with the following conditions:
- The financial aid process is complete, but aid is still anticipated (not disbursed). Up to $600 can be transferred before disbursement.
- The student is enrolled in a CashNet Payment Plan. Funds cannot be transferred until the payment plan has been paid in full.
To request the transfer, email billing@goucher.edu.
Withdrawal, Refund & Financial Aid
Tuition Charges & Withdrawal
Tuition charges are based on a student’s course load as of the registrar's add/drop deadline at the start of the semester. After this date, dropping a course will not reduce tuition charges. Students remain responsible for the full semester tuition unless they fully withdraw from the college. This policy applies to both degree-seeking and non-degree students. Students who withdraw from all courses may receive an adjustment to their charges based on the refund periods listed under Refund Schedule Based on Withdrawal Date on this page.
Financial Aid Adjustments
If a student withdraws, financial aid may also be adjusted. Federal financial aid is recalculated under the Return of Title IV Funds policy based on the percentage of the semester completed, up to 60%. After more than 60% of the semester has passed, federal aid will not be adjusted. Institutional aid is adjusted according to the tuition and fee refund schedule on this page and is based on the date the Registrar receives the semester withdrawal form.
Any credit balance remaining after these adjustments will be refunded. Any remaining balance due must be paid by the student.
Tuition Refund Insurance for medical withdrawals is available. Ë®¹ûÅÉAV½â˵ the Tuition Refund Insurance page to enroll and learn more about our Medical/Compassionate Withdrawal policy.
Ineligible for Adjustments
Students who are suspended or expelled for academic or disciplinary reasons are not
eligible for an adjustment of tuition charges. The college reserves the right to suspend
or dismiss a student at any time if academic standing or conduct is considered unsatisfactory.
Refund Schedule Based on Withdrawal Date
All refunds are subject to change per semester and are for a complete withdrawal for the semester.
