Siobahn Stiles

Siobahn Stiles, Ph.D. is the inaugural Director of the Digital Communication graduate program and an Associate Professor of Practice in the Communication and Media Studies Department at Ë®¹ûÅÉAV½â˵ College. Dr. Stiles has been teaching public relations at the undergraduate level since 2013 and has a passion for strategic communication and theories of persuasion. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America, and has recently joined the Maryland chapter of the PRSA. Siobahn has informally practiced public relations in various positions since her college days, and she is excited to share her enthusiasm for this profession with her students.
Prior to arriving at Ë®¹ûÅÉAV½â˵ College, Dr. Stiles served as Chair of the Communication Studies, Criminal Justice, and Psychology Department at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama.

Alexandra Harlig
Adjunct Professor
Alexandra Harlig is an Adjunct Professor for the M.A. in Digital Communication at Ë®¹ûÅÉAV½â˵, for which she designed and teaches DCOM 601: Digital Media Innovations: Theory, Practice, and Impact. She teaches and writes about the culture, economics, politics, and ethics of the internet, supported by a Ph.D. in Dance Studies from The Ohio State University, which helps keep human bodies and their needs central to her research and pedagogy. Her dissertation Social Texts, Social Audiences, Social Worlds: The Circulation of Popular Dance on YouTube (2019) has been downloaded over 10,000 times. She has taught at The Ohio State University, Tufts University, and University of Maryland, with a focus on accessible, student-centered pedagogy, particularly the critical grading movement.

Danny Kimball
Associate Professor
Danny Kimball is Associate Professor of Media Studies and Chair of the Department of Media Arts and Studies. He received his doctorate in Communication Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a concentration in Media and Cultural Studies. He is the author of Net Neutrality and the Battle for the Open Internet (University of Michigan Press, 2022). His research examining the intersection of media technologies, industries, and policy has also been published in the International Journal of Communication, Media Industries Journal, and The Washington Post, and is presented regularly at international academic conferences. He is currently working on a new research project focused on energy and internet infrastructures. His courses at Ë®¹ûÅÉAV½â˵ critically analyze the culture and political economy of media technologies, with special focus on digital culture, media industries, and environmental media.

Maceo Lester
Adjunct Professor
Maceo "Tendaji" Lester is a film/music video director, producer, editor, cinematographer, and founder of Ikonic Visions Multimedia Group. Tendaji received his MFA in Filmmaking from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA.) His work has been screened and won awards at several film festivals nationwide and internationally. Tendaji plans to continue making visuals that tell authentic stories and highlight the experiences of people from all walks of life.

Jason Lively
Adjunct Professor
Dr. Jason Dude Lively (known to many as Dr. Dude) has been teaching in the fields of Interactive Media, Web Design, and Digital Communication since 1998, with extensive experience in both online and traditional learning environments. He earned a BBA in Computer Information Systems from Howard Payne University (Brownwood, TX) and an MBA in Computer Information Systems from Tarleton State University (Stephenville, TX), both emphasizing the practical applications of computing in communication and design. He went on to complete an Educational Specialist degree and a Ph.D. in Computing Technology in Education at Nova Southeastern University (Fort Lauderdale, FL), where his studies focused on interactive media and emerging technologies for teaching and learning.
Dr. Lively began his career as a programmer and one of the earliest webmasters for a major computer manufacturer in the late 1990s, gaining first-hand expertise in programming, web development, and multimedia at a pivotal moment in the digital era. He later served as a university webmaster and as Chief Information Officer for HybridLight, LLC, an innovative company specializing in solar-powered lighting technologies. Alongside his industry work, he has remained active in consulting, research, and professional training.
In academia, Dr. Lively has held leadership positions as program chair, assistant dean, associate dean, and college dean, though his true passion lies in the classroom. An innovative educator and early adopter of emerging technologies, his teaching and research explore how digital tools and platforms can drive engagement and build durable, real-world communication skills. His recent scholarly interests focus on Artificial Intelligence, Virtual and Augmented Reality, and interactive simulations as vehicles for enhancing communication, storytelling, and professional development in the digital age.

Daniel Marcus
Professor
Daniel Marcus is Professor of Communication and Media Studies within the Center for Art and Media at Ë®¹ûÅÉAV½â˵ College. He teaches courses in media and politics, television studies, and documentary film and video, as well as courses in video production and screenwriting. He received a doctorate in Media and Cultural Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, after working in alternative media production with groups such as Paper Tiger Television and Deep Dish TV. He has also taught as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia. Marcus’s research is currently focused on media coverage of politics and economics, and on documentary and video activism. He has served as chair of Communication and Media Studies and of the college Curriculum Committee. He has also served on the consulting panel on documentary for the national Peabody Awards.

Jenna Oliver
Adjunct Professor
Jenna Oliver has diverse leadership experience in education and communication. She completed her Master's in Media Studies at The New School University, where she participated as a fellow in a prestigious think tank of poets, professors, legislators, and activists working to impact global change.
Oliver has worked with thought leaders from all over the world in various capacities. One mentor that influenced her work significantly was Dennis Brutus, the acclaimed South African poet who taught her the foundations of storytelling. This inspired her to publish an original workshop incorporating the foundations of universal storytelling into modern communication.
Oliver has taught at various institutions over the past two decades including: The New School, Regis University, Colorado State University, Metropolitan State University, and The Colorado Film School. She has received appointments, accolades, and awards for her work in education, communication, and marketing. Oliver was appointed to the board of directors for the Public Education and Business Coalition and has influenced and created the strategic communications and marketing infrastructure for several higher education institutions, non-profits, and government entities. She brings a wealth of practical experience and theoretical knowledge to Ë®¹ûÅÉAV½â˵, along with a passion for mentoring and facilitating student success.

Dara Padwo-Audick
Adjunct Professor
Dara is a media professional with decades of experience across various genres in the media landscape. Her genuine passion for telling impactful stories has taken her around the globe throughout Africa, Asia, Canada, Central America, Europe, and every state in the United States. Her journey to understand and share Himalayan culture took her to Bhutan in 2008 and again in 2017 to reveal the impact of Gross National Happiness in Asia and Europe.
Dara is the creator of She’s Got Grit and 650,000 Hours. She wrote and produced Onion Skin, a full-length play about skin cancer, which debuted at the Capital Fringe Festival in 2023. Her short screenplay, The Cardigan, earned multiple festival awards for best short script. Dara has written, produced, and directed programs and series for Animal Planet, CBS, DARPA Channel, Discovery Channel, Discovery HD-Theater, Discovery Kids, ESPN, Fox, Home and Garden Television, Lifetime Television, Military Channel, National Geographic Channel, Outdoor Life Channel, OWN, PBS, and Science Channel.
She has been an adjunct professor in the School of Communication at American University (AU) since 2004. She is an ICF-certified ACC coach. She earned both Certified Professional Coach and Energy Leadership Practitioner certifications in January 2016.

Julie Summers
Adjunct faculty
Julie Summers has a diverse experience in academic and professional settings. She completed her Ph.D. in Organizational Learning and Human Resources Development at Iowa State and her MSA from Northwestern University. Her research focused on online learning and how brands can engage customers.
Prior to full-time teaching, she was an AVP at Wells Fargo where she managed training, communication, and marketing for credit and debit cards. Using her experience, she pioneered the move to online learning.
For the last 20 years she has taught a variety of courses in marketing, communication, and management courses. As marketing analytics evolve, she combines her passion for analytics with communication to enhance storytelling.
